Product Description Celestron Solar Filters are made with Baader Astro Solar Safety Film. Far superior than any existing glass, Mylar or polymer filters, they lead to brighter, sharper, and higher contrast images.Enter the millennium with the finest solar filters available. Astro Solar Safety Film is clear and homogenous and attains the optical performance of high quality plane-parallel glass filters-it is diffraction limited! Double-sided metal coatings have uniform density and good color balance across the entire field ensuring razor sharp images from edge to edge. The Sun appears in its "real "color -neutral white, not blue or orange ,and the sky adjacent to the solar limb is jet black. You can see detail in sunspots, bright faculae near the limb and the mottled areas known as granules with these filters. The Sun offers constant changes and will keep your observing interesting and fun. Even small aperture telescopes can enjoy features of the Sun.The Astro Solar film is completely safe and durable (won't break like glass if dropped). Its rating is ND-5 which means that the film transmits 1/100,000 of visible light (.001%) while reflecting (blocking) 99.999%of unwanted light. The film absorbs all ultraviolet rays while coating reflects infrared light rendering both absolutely harmless. For added assurance, Baader Astro Solar film has been declared safe for direct solar viewing by the German National Bureau of Standards for eye safety.Celestron has previousl

| Customer Reviews: Great price Solar Filter August 9, 2007 Kuldeepsinh Rana (Rochester, NY USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
A really nice and cheap solar filter. Its light weight and provides adequet protection. Does all that the discription says! Being light weight, its easy to carry around. The fit is snug. However, one has to be careful not to poke the film. This is the only downside I find with the filter, but then I guess any film based filter would have this problem! With this addition, I can use my telescope at any time.
I have been able to see sunspots. They are clear and very visible. For more details on the construction, you should check out the Celestron website.
Adorama customer was excellent and the shipping was really fast. Would recommend if you are planning on studying the sun.
Great solar filter for the Celestron Nexstar 8 SE September 28, 2007 Sheldon Sims (Nederland, TX USA) I bought this solar filter to use on my Celestron Nexstar 8 SE. It works fantastic. It produces a bluish-white image of the Sun which is pleasant to look at. It does well for photographs, too. I used the filter this morning, and took a picture of the one sun spot that I saw. This is a great product!
Didn't go blind. July 15, 2010 nanmka (Tampa, FL United States) I'm an amateur star gazer. I've always wanted to look at the sun without going blind. This works. I could make out the basics on the sun and I've been able to capture a few good images of what I think are spots. It is easy to place on the telescope. It seems flimsy because of the foil like lense, however, I have had no problems with it (I'm careful with all my gear).
5 stars for being able to look at the sun clearly and not going blind.
Fairly Good Service January 22, 2009 Eugene E. Brull (Redondo Beach, CA United States) Everything as excellent. Only drawback was that the item was backorderd which delayed about a week
It's light weight alright. December 7, 2009 R. Smith (Michigan) It's a thin plastic film mounted in a ring like the cover for the main optics.
It does work very well though. Only ding is they should have added a box to store it in. I mean, come on! Make something that is rather fragile and then not provide a cheap 'Made in China' box to protect it? The eyepiece kits come in a tank of a box with cut foam and the works and this comes with a plastic bag and a cardboard box.
Other than that, it works as described. Wish it came with spotter scope filter too though...
